DLA Piper and Gateley Middle East have each promoted a lawyer to partner in Dubai.
DLA Piper raises financial regulation expert
DLA Piper has promoted Adrianus Schoorl to partner in Dubai. The firm raised 62 lawyers globally, including Schoorl, as part of its latest cohort.
Schoorl leads the financial services regulatory practice for the Middle East and North Africa. His work focuses on data regulation, digital assets, payments, and financial services technology.
He brings more than 25 years of experience in financial regulation. His career spans Europe, the Middle East, and North America. He has worked in the Middle East for more than two decades.
Before joining DLA Piper in 2024, Schoorl served as general counsel and head of compliance at Wizz Financial, a global fintech company. Earlier in his career, he helped build regulatory practices at Magic Circle and White Shoe firms such as Allen & Overy, Freshfields, and White & Case.
“DLA Piper’s global platform and strong presence in the Middle East create an exceptional opportunity to continue supporting clients on complex regulatory matters,” Schoorl said.
He will speak at Finance in focus 2026, a Law Middle East event taking place next week on May 19 at The St. Regis Downtown Dubai.
Gateley Middle East names new corporate partner
Gateley Middle East has promoted Amun Bashir to partner in its corporate practice. The move reflects the firm’s continued investment in its regional platform.
Bashir joined the firm last year. She has supported the expansion of its corporate and M&A practice, advising on regional and cross-border mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, and broader corporate matters.
“I am proud to step into the partnership at a time of strong momentum for Gateley Middle East,” Bashir said.
“My promotion reflects the continued investment by the business in growing a market-leading corporate transactions practice in the region with a clear focus on running well-run, efficient transactions combining technical excellence with clear, pragmatic advice that clients can act on quickly.”
“Looking ahead, my focus will be on continuing to scale our corporate transactional practice in the Middle East, deepening relationships with key clients and intermediaries, and further strengthening our sector-led approach, particularly across retail and consumer,” she said.
Managing partner Darren Harris said the promotion is well deserved. He noted that Bashir combines technical expertise with a deep understanding of the regional market.
